Why Keystone?

Keystone Medical Services has been delivering special palliative care since 2005. Our skilled clinical staff has been giving comfort care to people who have life-limiting and challenging illnesses and ailments. We are also a proud member of the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC).

Palliative care is for people who want to improve their quality of life. Our goal is to improve the quality of life of a seriously ill person and their family during and after treatment of an illness or ailment.

  • Complex Symptom Management
A broad term, Complex Symptom Management simply means helping patients and their families understand the illness or ailment and advising them of appropriate treatment options.
  • Communication
Leading patients and their families in setting goals and milestones for care requires extensive communication.
  • Partnership
We partner with a patient’s physician. Together we ensure you receive consistent, non-conflicting care.

What is Palliative Care, and How is it Different from Hospice Care?

To palliate means to make a person more comfortable by treating their symptoms when it may not be possible to treat or cure the underlying cause. Symptoms may include pain, nausea, or difficulty breathing.

Patients receiving palliative care have reported decreased pain, improvement of appetite, less anxiety, and more strength and guidance to make decisions surrounding their quality of life.

Palliative care is different than hospice care in its curative and rehabilitative approach. While a hospice patient has a likely prognosis of less than six months, a palliative care patient’s prognosis is uncertain.
